Hibbert Family

by Brady Withers on 07/19/10

I have known the Hibbert's for 15 years, their son Brett has been one of my best friends for just as long. When they called I instantly accepted an offer to take their family pictures, not only would I get to spend some time with some of my favorite people in the world, I would get to travel to Bear Lake and take pictures at a beautiful location.

The locations they had picked out were awesome, I am hoping at some point I get to head back to Bear Lake with another family, so many interesting places to shoot! The weather couldn't make up it's mind, it was sunny, then cloudy, then windy, then sunny again, kept everyone on their toes though.

Along with a group family pictures we took some individual family shots as well. Everyone was already dressed up and looking good, why not take advantage of the time we had?  I know family pictures aren't always the most fun thing, but I think we captured some really cool memories. I really do hope at some point down the road I have the chance to work with the Hibberts again, thanks guys, it was great to see you again, let's not wait so long next time.

This is just a small sample of the pictures from that evening. Why are you settling for boring in studio family pictures!? Let's get out, have some fun and make some really cool memories that you will be happy to hang on your wall!

Kylee & Jeff, the Reception

by Brady Withers on 06/16/10

It was such a pleasure to work with both Kylee and Jeff, I can only hope that future Brides and Grooms are this much fun to work with. Both of their families were great as well, everyone from Brothers and Sisters, to Grandma's and Grandpa's.

The Reception was held at Magnolia Grove in South Jordan, Utah. The reception center was beautiful both inside and out and made for the perfect backdrop for the evening. Thanks again to Kylee and Jeff for making my job so easy, I can't wait to deliver the final images to you.

Kylee & Jeff: Oquirrh Mountain Temple

by Brady Withers on 06/10/10

This will be a 2 part blog post about Jeff & Kylee's wedding, one about the Temple and the other about the reception.

It's always an awesome feeling seeing a newly married couple for the first time. There are no forced smiles, no fake emotions, just genuine and honest love for one another. Kylee and Jeff were all smiles as they exited the Oquirrh Mountain Temple Tuesday morning, both glowing with excitement as they finally began their journey together.

Hopefully as time goes on Kylee and Jeff will be able to look at these pictures and remember those first moments together, and remember all the love and support they had from so many family members and friends. Here are a few shots from the morning at the Temple.

Memorial Day fun!

by Brady Withers on 06/03/10

A few weeks ago I picked a new fisheye optic for my lensbaby. I haven't had much time to play around with it, but the Memorial Day BBQ seemed like the perfect time to do so. Everyone was a little hesitant when I was an inch from their face with my camera, but after seeing the images they were more than happy to play along.

Obviously these pictures aren't going to win any awards but they were a ton of fun to both take and pose for! So without further adieu, the Withers Family (most of us) in all of our fisheye glory!

There are more pictures waiting to be processed and while they wont be put up on this blog (at least I don't think they will) you can keep checking the Memorial Day set on my flickr account for more hilarious pictures! http://www.flickr.com/photos/freddyfromutah/sets/72157624054097789/

Senior Pictures

by Brady Withers on 06/01/10

It seems to be a common theme among my recent photo shoots, fighting the weather and sweating the rain until the very last moment. Friday wasn't any different, we were on a deadline and had to take the pictures regardless. As always it seemed to work out just in time, we had almost two hours of decent weather and some nice clouds to work with, I guess I shouldn't worry so much.

The Mom and her Boys were awesome, just a ton of fun to work with, their sense of humor and personality is all over the pictures. The best part of the day is when we were shooting the three of them together, the boys arguing over who Mom liked more, the Mom was totally game for playing along. Hopefully I will have the opportunity to work with this family again!

Where are you looking?

by Brady Withers on 05/25/10

When I talk to people about photography the #1 thing I try to impress upon people is this, where are you looking? Are you taking your time? If there is one thing you could do to improve your photography is to take your time, be patient.

When you go on vacation do you walk to the same spot as everyone else and take the same picture of the Space Needle everyone else does? Or do you spend a couple extra minutes walking around, taking more pictures? Look, film for all intents and purposes is free, why not take a few extra pictures?

Walk around, take your time! It amazes me how many times I will be somewhere taking pictures and someone will get out of a car, walk to a spot, take one picture and leave. Take a few minutes looking before you shoot, what is it you like about that spot? What drew you there? Then take your time, compose your shot and go from there.

One of the reasons I got into photography was that I didn't want the same picture of the Statue of Liberty everyone else has, I wanted something unique, something different! The best example I can offer is from last night at the Great Salt Lake, these three shots were taken within 30 minutes of eachother, all totally different, this happened by taking my time, walking around and taking pictures.

Bridals (and Groomals)

by Brady Withers on 05/18/10

We had planned on doing Kylee's Bridal pictures at two locations, the Utah State Capitol Building and the Great Salt Lake. The weather didn't cooperate with us so we were only able to make it to the Capitol Building, but expect to see another post with shots from the lake next week!

I wanted to use the Building as a compliment to Kylee and her incredible dress. She looked just beautiful last night and I think the lines in the building and colors really work well together with her. Once again I had so much fun working with the two of them (and Jeff's sisters)! When we go out to the lake I will capture some more detail in her dress and get some more close up shots, I just wanted to make sure that we were able to capture just how beautiful she was.

There are more shots from the evening but these three really capture the evening best. While Kylee looks stunning alone in her dress, she was happiest with her man by her side, as I told him, it's not about you Jeff, you are just the arm candy! If only all couples were so much fun to work with!

Giving Back

by Brady Withers on 05/03/10

The past year has offered me some incredible opportunities with regards to my photography. Along with a group of friends I was able to photograph the Families of Deploying soldiers and Saturday I was lucky enough to be able to take part in another great event.

John Carper, the head coach of the Bingham Soccer team contacted me about taking pictures at an event that his team was putting together. They were hosting some special needs students and individuals at the High School and putting on a Soccer clinic. The weather looked a little scary in the morning (IE: Snow... in May) but it cleared up just in time.

The Soccer players were just awesome, you could tell they were just as thrilled to be there. As I walked past one of the Soccer players I casually mentioned that they were doing a good thing, he agreed whole heartedly.

I love opportunities like this, it only took a few hours and I think the pictures really tell a nice story. Hopefully as time goes on I will find myself with more shoots like this one.

Kylee & Jeff

by Brady Withers on 04/27/10

What comes to mind when you think of engagement pictures? Do you imagine the posed couple, in studio, kind of rigid and nervous? When I set out to take Kylee and Jeff's engagement pictures I set out with a plan to capture them in unique places, something different, something they would be happy to hang on their wall for years to come. I wanted to capture them in their environment, I wanted to show case their love for one another as well.

We started at Spring Mobile Ballpark, we had the entire place to ourselves! Opening day was the following night so we weren't able to get Kylee tagging Jeff out at home, but I think we captured something totally unique for them, something they will remember for a long time to come.

We scheduled another hour for some more shots, more personal this time, I didn't want to worry about the background or the lighting, just the two of them. We spent an hour at Daybreak, Utah just walked around and stopping on ocassion to take a few pictures. Fate would have it that this is where Jeff and Kylee decided to get married, pretty cool! It was an awesome exeperience photographing the two of them, you could tell how much they love eachother and I think we were able to show that in the images. Why settle? Let's make some memories together, not just pictures, but actual tell your kids about this picture, memories.

Senior Pictures

by Brady Withers on 04/14/10

What do you think of when you imagine your Senior Pictures? Sitting on a stool, your Cap and Gown on and smiling awkwardly towards a camera? Maybe You next to Mom and Dad with a huge crowd of people behind you after you Graduated? Does this really capture the spirit of who you were a Senior in High School?

As I prepared for this photo shoot yesterday, I just simply asked her to bring something with that she loves, something that has defined her as a High School Student. So we set off and took pictures of her on Bingham High Schools Track, simply holding her Track spikes and her Uniform over her shoulder. I hope that as Ashlee grows older and has a family of her own she is able to show her Children these pictures and they will know exactly what she was like when She was their age! Cheesy, I know.

There are important moments in life that are just screaming to be captured in unique and memorable way, let's get together and step outside the normal portraits, studio sittings and make something special! Thank you to both Jen and Ashlee you were so much fun to work with and I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I have.
